NATURES Faculty Speaker Series

NATURES Faculty Speaker Series showcases the depth and variety of scientific talent on the UMass Amherst campus. Sponsoring presentations of research that is finding answers to both common and critical problems (from countering the impact of sleep deprivation to finding affordable sustainable energy, from decreasing the risk of cancer to stopping the spread of bacteria in food preparation), the College of Natural Sciences is helping faculty make their scientific and technological advances known to the public.

Addressing a general science audience and oriented to the Five College community, NATURES lets people know that scientists in the College of Natural Sciences are working to make life better—locally and globally.

"Living with Your Genes: Breast Cancer Risk and Resistance" is the first topic in this new series of faculty presentations discussing ongoing research that has implications for everyone.

Dr. Jerry, professor in the department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, science director of the Pioneer Valley Life Sciences Institute (PVLSI), and co-director of the Rays of Hope Center for Breast Cancer Research, will discuss research that has identified genes as both diagnostic and treatment tools in the battle against breast cancer.

Dr. Jerry's NATURES presentation is at 11 am in the O'Connor Auditorium in the Integrated Sciences Building, 661 North Pleasant Street, on the UMass Amherst campus. A reception will follow the presentation.
